Greg Gumbel, a veteran of CBS Sports who spent more than 50 years in sports broadcasting, has died of cancer at the age of 78, his family said Friday. "He passed away peacefully surrounded by much love after a courageous battle with cancer," his wife, Marcy Gumbel, and daughter, Michelle Gumbel, said in a joint statement released by CBS Sports. "Greg approached his illness like one would expect he would, with stoicism, grace and positivity. Scotts Valley Tornado Classified as EF1 by NWS Bay Area

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) – The National Weather Service (NWS) has classified the tornado that struck Scotts Valley as an EF1 after completing a detailed survey. The tornado, which occurred on Saturday afternoon, touched down at 1:39 p.m. and lasted until 1:44 p.m. It traveled 0.31 miles with a width of 30 yards, producing wind speeds of up to 90 mph.
The Enhanced Fujita (EF) Scale rates tornadoes as EF1 when wind speeds range from 86 to 110 mph. According to the NWS, the Scotts Valley tornado caused a variety of damage. It downed trees and power poles, stripped branches from trees, and overturned numerous vehicles. Additionally, street signs were damaged, and cars were flipped upside down due to the force of the winds. The tornado's impact was severe, despite lasting only a few minutes. Reports indicate several injuries occurred as a result of the event. Residents were left dealing with widespread debris and property damage across the affected area. Tornadoes are rare in this region, making the incident particularly unusual and alarming.
